Pisgah Project Day 2024

Every year, The Pisgah Conservancy and US Forest Service (USFS) organize Pisgah Project Day with the support of Pisgah Area SORBA and multiple conservation groups. This day brings together hundreds of volunteers to celebrate their love for Pisgah Forest and work together to give back to the trails. This year, the event included 30 projects and over 400 volunteers in the forest areas near Asheville, Mills River, and Brevard.

PAS volunteers took part in three projects with over 40 volunteers.

In Bent Creek, more than 20 volunteers and Trail Crew worked on Wolf Branch to address multiple issues. They built a 30-foot turnpike to raise the trail tread to alleviate a problematic wet/muddy area and address drainage issues throughout the upper trail. The volunteers had staged materials earlier in the week and spent Saturday improving the raised tread.

In South Mills River/Turkey Pen, approximately 10 PAS volunteers supported our friends at Trail Dynamics and helped move heavy rocks to armor a 20-foot section of trail between the parking lot and the river. The crew also armored and staged more rocks for future efforts.

As part of the larger project in the Brevard area, PAS volunteers led a group of 18 volunteers to clear overgrowth in the Searcy Creek area, remove debris, and work on trail tread on Long Branch Trail.

The collective efforts of the three crews showcase the ongoing dedication of our members and volunteers and support our continued collaboration with The Pisgah Conservancy.
