Forest Service to Conduct Prescribed Burn at Bent Creek Today 4/26/2013
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The USDA Forest Service plans to conduct a prescribed burn today on 33 acres of forest in the Bent Creek Experimental Forest. The prescribed burn will occur on three small parcels of 10, 14, and 9 acres.
The prescribed burn is part of a multi-year research study by the Bent Creek Experimental Forest, a research location of the Southern Research Station that studies upland hardwood ecology and management. The project will help researchers better understand the effects …

A sunny yet crisp Sunday morning led me back to Trace Ridge in Mills River for another work day with the usual crew – myself, Greg Leister and Dave Knupp. Weather was perfect, and we managed to carve out a nice section of around 175ft of new trail. Greg as usual, did a great job as leader and we even even had the venerable Messrs Chris Neubert and Chris Strout show up for a morning of hard, yet worthwhile trail blazing.

The once-vibrant BMX race track at Hendersonville’s Jackson Park had been forgotten for years. Now, thanks to a largely volunteer effort, the overgrown field is about to become a bike park.
