When I first posted this ride in September of ’08, I was aware that DSF land managers tolerated, though they did not like, locals’ use of the un-mapped power line trail connecting Pine Tree Trail at Staton Road with the east leg of Cedar Rock Trail. On a 15 April ’09 ride, I discovered that DSF personnel had erected a fence to discourage the locals who were still sneaking onto the power line. The route below has been edited to use only ‘approved’ trails as shown on the …

This ride is one of my DSF favorites–the ride is just over 13 miles, and includes several trail segments that see little traffic. The ride ends with a 1.5 mile surf down Ridgeline Trail–if you’re not smiling when you return to your vehicle, go home and put your bike on eBay!
Getting there: Zero your trip odometer at the intersection of US-64, US-276, and NC280. Drive east (toward Hendersonville). At 3.7 miles (and the Triangle Stop) turn right onto Crab Creek Road. At 8.1 miles turn right onto DuPont Road. At …

Organizers (I was one of them) of the 21 October ’01 Dupont State Forest IMBA Epic mountain bike ride obtained permission to cross private property for short portions of the ride. East Side Fun–Classic Dupont Ascents and Descents
This 13.42 mile loop combines some of the best trails on Dupont State Forest’s east side, and gives the rider a great mix of climbs and drops. A couple of the trails (Briery Fork and Twin Oaks) see little use, and I’ve ridden the entire loop on a weekday without seeing another trail user except in the parking lot! The start/end for the ride is the Lake Imaging lot on Staton Road. Highlights include Ridgeline Trail, Shoal Creek Trail, and Jim Branch Trail…

All 2009 STT routes started from the Guion Farm area of Dupont State Forest. The following route is for the Epic ride, and is posted AS WRITTEN. Weather and a couple other considerations resulted in slight deviations from this routing in the flagging of the 29 March ’09 ride. Enjoy–TZ
Getting there: Zero your trip odometer at the intersection of US-64, US-276, and NC280 (in Pisgah Forest, just north of Brevard). Drive east (toward Hendersonville). At 3.7 miles (and the Triangle Stop) turn right onto Crab …
