The NMBP unit of Pisgah Area SORBA met at Beef O’Brady’s the evening of Thursday, September 19, 2013. In attendance were Doug Bensley, Bill Boughton, Steve Frost, Bruce Gilbert, Tom Kaczmarek, Janet Lawson, Jimi Megonnell, Chris Neubert, Chuck Ramsey, Rick Schrader, Steven Shaw, and Marty Spencer. BENT CREEK — They’re not the bike police, but this new mountain bike patrol unit just might save your life one day.
The Pisgah Area Southern Off Road Bicycling Association, working with the N.C. and U.S. Forest Service agencies, has launched two volunteer mountain bike patrols in area forests to assist, educate and inform the outdoor recreating public.

Our long wait is over and we now have a MOU with Dupont State Recreational Forest and we can start patrolling in this location. We are still in the works for a MOU with Bent Creek Experimental Forest. Chris Morgan has been communicating with Derik (NFS Ranger) to hammer out the details and we hope to have one soon.

mountain bikers helped DSRF equestrians with a series of equestrian clinics called “Staying Safe on Multi-use Trails”. As part of the clinics, mountain bikers rode around, near, and toward equestrians in a paddock area, then in typical trail situations such as meeting and overtaking other user groups on wide and narrow trails.
