The Green River Game Lands is full of steep and technical terrain that makes it a perfect location for one hell of a race. Athletes will be timed in 3 downhill stages and will have limited time to climb the liaison stages to the next timed stage. This format of mountain bike racing is all about the excitement of downhill and the endurance of cross country.

An effort to save an injured mountain biker deep in Pisgah National Forest Wednesday took rescue agencies from Henderson and Transylvania counties more than seven hours to complete.
Rescue agencies received the call at about 10:50 a.m., Mills River Fire and Rescue Capt. Chris Ballinger said. Rescuers didn’t get the man on his way to the hospital until 6:30 p.m. due to rough terrain and narrow trails.

The Friends of DuPont Forest (FODF) nonprofit volunteer group has just hired its first salaried employee.
Sara Landry stepped into the position Jan. 14 after a background in marketing and administration. Her most recent role was at Lenoir Rhyne University in Asheville, where she said she wore many hats.
Visitation to DuPont State Recreational Forest is expected to be around a million people this year, so for the FODF the time for an office to set their budget, direct enquiries and assist the N.C. Forest Service is now.

Thanks to 35 hard working volunteers from Friends Of DuPont Forest, Pisgah Area SORBA and Upstate SORBA drainage was improved on three miles of trails in DuPont Forest. Next time you are on Mine Mountain, Laurel Ridge or Airstrip check out the fine work that was done by these skilled volunteers.
