Lower Black Trail Work Day, January 22nd, 2017
Written by: David Knupp
With rain threatening this work day, it was hard to get myself out of the house and roll the dice in hopes that it would turn out ok and we would be able to do some work on Lower black mtn trail in Pisgah. Pretty cool how it turned out. It was not raining as I got to the parking lot and was pleasantly surprised when 7 folks showed up to work. The plan for the day was to clean out and reshape drains and to clean out 2 culverts that were beginning to fill up with silt and debris. Everyone who showed up this day had done trail work before so they needed no tutelage in the order of the day. Alicia, Lauren and I got pretty nasty cleaning out a culvert while Kim worked on the other. Ryan, Charlie, John and Jon worked on drains and the result was, a lot getting done. We didn’t quite make it to the upper bridge, but we were pretty close and one more short day will finish up this section and have it shedding water for a while. Big thanks to the folks that showed up for my first work session of 2017 and I am already looking forward to the next one.
