Training exercises set in DuPont Forest June 18th – 22nd – Some Trail closures
BREVARD — A number of trails and roads in DuPont State Recreational Forest will be closed this week as foresters conduct air operations training.
The N.C. Forest Service and U.S. Forest Service are conducting the joint training involving helicopters and ground crews starting today and extending through Friday. The training focusing on wildfire suppression will involve five helicopters and up to 60 people, according to a news release from the N.C. Department of Agriculture.
Most of the activity will be in the area of Guion Farm and at a small airstrip in the forest.
Visitors to the forest should refrain from approaching the helicopters and heed the instructions of forest service staff and other officials for their own safety.
While the training is scheduled all week, trail and road closings will be limited to Tuesday through Thursday. Trails that will be closed include Table Rock, Twin Oaks, Briery Fork, Grassy Meadow and Poplar Loop. Road closings will include Turkey Knob Road and Joanna Road.
