Avery Creek Trail Work , June 24th, 2012
On Sunday, June 24, the PAS Trail Crew tackled work on Avery Creek Trail. Sawyers Chuck and Carlos hiked in to clear out the deadfall high up near the switchback that were large enough to cause forced dismounts, while a crew of Todd, Ryan, Van, Tony and Chris S.started work at the intersection with FS477. Efforts for the day focused on diverting water off the trail, including rebuilding the drop-in off the road and the first left-hand bend, de-berming several long edges, clearing out drains and constructing a “nick” at a strategic location. Taken together, this work should help shed water more quickly and in shorter sections, helping ease the erosion on the first part of the trail.
Chris S. got a chance to ride from the top later in the day, and is happy to report that the switchback is open, thanks to Chuck and Carlos!
