Trail workdays in DuPont State Recreational Forest – March 22nd and April 1st
Very wet weather including uber-hard rains have left some trails in DuPont wet and muddy. A contract is out on some of these, but a few trails not including in the contract are also problems.
Airstrip is a favorite with mountain bikers but current conditions are less than stellar. Many wet spots and some mud best describe the current conditions.
I will host a few workdays to get this trail ready for prime time riding and spring. Please join us if you can.
First workday is a Dirty Thursday event March 22nd, meet at the Fawn Lake parking area at 5:30. We can car pool into the top of Airstrip or folks can ride bikes in. We will work for 2 hrs or so and folks can catch a night ride if desired, bring lights if you plan to partake.
If you cant the 5:30 meeting time, then bring you bike and ride in and stash your two wheeler at he top where the trail drops off the runway and grab a tool and walk down to find us. Tools will be located on the ground at the start of the trail.
Update to the March 22nd workday
A big thanks to Andrew Mueller for coming out today and helping with this project. He rode his bike in at 5 or so, worked till dark and then rode out via headlight, sweet. A bigger thanks to my good friend Bill Goulding from Ontario Canada. Bill is a professional trail contractor up north and comes down to NC for a few months each year escaping winter. Bill and I got there at about 3 to start the project, and he worked with the machine for a few hours.
We got the upper first leg dialed in through the first right hand turn. Our April 1 workday should complete the rest of the trail assuming we get a decent turn out.

Please let me know (posting a reply here or PM) if you plan to join us as that helps plan how many tools to bring.
Please let me know if you plan to attend, so I know how many tolls to bring.
Thanks for all who plan to make this.
